First thing that comes to mind? This person is a survivor of Silent Hill, but as with all those that managed to survive their trials, this person left with scars. They had spider monsters, and this little guy triggered a rather...violent reaction. 

Kinda interesting how the mind will provide such arbitrary background information, isn't it?
